I woke up singing

The screams in my chest

Because the world

Is going to end,

Don’t you know that?

All the happy is built

Into the side of the sad,

So we can never let

Our guards down.

But then I was thinking

Of all the hopeful moments

And the ones that I looked

At with eyes that knew

They’d never see such things

Again, and I thanked God

for making them even when

I ended up losing them,

Because can you really ever lose

What was never yours

In the first place?
