Theological Themes in the Book of Lamentations Introduction:

The spirit of the Book of Lamentations goes beyond merely weeping over the past.
A.
Lamentations is a historical record given to the Israel in particular and to everyone in general.

It is an implicit (understood and embedded) warning that to transgress is to invite disaster.
2.
Actually transgression is not merely an invitation to disaster; it is a guarantee.
B.
Beyond the weeping is the message of Sovereignty.
1.
God is able not only to bring judgment but is also able to bring restoration.

It is in His authority to do whatsoever He desires.
a.
There is none to counsel Him as to what He chooses to do or not to do.
b.
There is no authority to whom He must give an account for His actions.
c.
There is not with the right to question His choosing in any matter.
d.
There is no other God to whom He must be obedient.

He is Sovereign.

The prophets had predicted that God would judge the sins of his people if they did not repent.
