Shock
Remember To Send for Help – Call an Ambulance
Note
A shock state is when a person is not getting enough blood or oxygen to their organs; this may be the result of trauma, blood loss, poisoning, allergic reactions, severe burns, heat stroke, or other causes.
Signs and Symptoms
- Cool, clammy skin
- Pale or ashen skin
- Rapid pulse
- Rapid breathing
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
Treatment

DRSABCD
- Manage any injuries
- Place the patient flat on the floor and raise their legs (unless this may cause further injury or pain)
- Loosen any tight clothing to help blood circulation
- Keep the patient warm with a blanket (not direct heat)
- If the patient begins to vomit, has difficulty breathing or becomes unconscious, place them in the recovery position
- Seek medical assistance
