Back in the spotlight

forgotten in the darkness of restrictions

theater is familiar

like an old friend

we get tired of

but who knows us too well for us to let go

and when the camera is there

the lines we’ve learned

or haven’t

are obvious to all

and when casual fans turn off the TV

we are only left with the friends

who see us as we are

not the character we were pretending to be

reality is a mess of failure and mistakes

and the occasional good idea

that is more of a happy accident

than a work of genius

the poster can be airbrushed

and makeup can hide the scars

and management can sell the show

but is God more interested in who we are

than who we are pretending to be

we can have a good act going

but who are we really
