and yet there I was

in the thunder of the party

I was never one for love

but there I was caught in the picture

with a lover

I was never one for scandal

and yet the coffee shops

spoke of nothing else

and all we did was paint

a word picture

together

and all we wanted

was to be free

to be a better player

yes, we were only actors

in the part of our lives

smiling

with every snap

and click

of the digital shutter

shuttering away
