A Refuge Found

If there is anything taken from these poems,

Let it be love.

Let these words breathe into you,

Lungs, heart, nerves, every inch.

Self-Esteem is a confusing term,

It is called "self-esteem",

But is hardly dependent on ourselves.

Because self-esteem really branches from how others see us.

How we are treated,

How much insecurity is conquered.

That is what self-esteem really is.

So I tell you this,

Fuck anyone who says you're not beautiful, or handsome, or gorgeous.

Not "fuck them" literally,

But just never talk to them again and don't listen to a word they say.

Because you are a badass, you are the coolest,

They have insecurities too which is why they try to bash.

One day someone will love you so much that they will stitch your heart together and do whatever they can to keep it together.

Help others but help yourself too,

Promises aren't always kept but make sure you remain true,

Never cheat and just be you,

Because you are the greatest person I ever knew.

Some days are harder than others.

Making you feel as though you have no sister or brother.

But we need help; maybe it is from a God or Gods you believe in,

Or maybe it is from the person within.

Some things really do lie between the ears.

So relax and live life,

Go to the party that your brother is throwing,

Hang out with someone,

Because although your body will stop, your mind will never quit growing.

Search within yourself to find who you are now,

Then set a goal for who you want to become.

Once you were lost and in need of safe ground,

But find peace in knowing that love is your refuge found.
