One Syllable at a Time

I can’t eat my words,
But if I could,
Would they taste
Even as slightly
As sweet
As
Yours?
Or would the bitter
Root serve to sever,
My duplicitous tongue,
Sprouting praises
where cursed?
In that case,
Let me starve,
One syllable
At a time.
