Up in Flame

I can count them
My matchsticks,
Light them hard
against phosphorous,
powdered glass,
And up in flame
They go.
But whose breath
snuffs them out,
A mere whisper,
parting of lips,
Reminding me
that I’ve never
Once
Controlled
The flame?
