(314-316) Works of Love VIII
THE VICTORY OF RECONCILIATION IN LOVE WHICH WINS THE VANQUISHED
When God is the word we use
That name can seem at distance
When I speak the middle term
It feels part of our existence
This term is a thing quite intimate
Between us and the middle term
We share the things most proximate
And through exchange we learn
This makes an essential equality
Between victor and the vanquished
Nothing lost from the totality
No cause for defeated anguish
In the middle term we share
Our portions must be in balance
When one returns to those who care
It makes an immediate alliance
With this regained clarity of sight
The lover and beloved perceive
This is the divine way to unite
And no more the vanquished grieve
We feel the calm of the eternity
In this state all is forgiven
And leaves us both in amity
The peace the middle term has given
The victor and the vanquished
Are at one in their shared victory
With good the evil vanished
It's our blessed, sacred mystery
