contrast, taking the broader view of life I’m advocating here, is the slow, quiet and unassuming way of being in the world, but also, I’d suggest, our best hope.
An individual’s success in the world might carry them through a long and happy life with no need to change. But then, this might be described as ‘getting away with it’. Being able to bluff or bully one’s way through life is really not the kind of life anyone should be proud of. Then again, that person may be so deluded about who they really are that they die without realising other people thought they were a monster or a lunatic!
There’s not much that can be said of this! I’d only suggest that there’s some hope that most of us would prefer honestly — if we could achieve it — than being deluded, especially being deluded for a whole lifetime.
