Can you imagine having to sit through that sort of carefree, happy thing every miserable incarcerated day? You couldn’t possibly.
Former inmates have reported incidents of other sorts of abuse by pansy screws which never get investigated. And although the population is classified as “non-violent,” this is determined by what they have been convicted of as opposed to what they have actually done. Riots and murders still do happen, albeit, at a lesser frequency than prisons with higher security levels.
As mentioned, County prisons are reserved for non-violent offenders. This is why most white collar criminals end up in this type of prison. But this doesn’t mean that these prisons are exclusively for white collar offenders. There are also those who have committed very minor infractions, like armed robbery, like me, or assault, and are not deemed a flight risk; or the high security facilities are full, which has been happening with increased frequency due to theft becoming the numero uno US
growth racket and the unabashed recidivism.
Most inmates who get sent to this type of prison also have shorter sentences. It can range from six days to less than ten years. Inmates who only have a few years left on their sentence
and have shown excellent behavior, basically meaning no assaults on guards or other inmates, food service workers traversable, in high security prisons may also be transferred to County facilities.
Most County prisons have better amenities than other prisons.
But it’s certainly far from posh. As previously mentioned, some still managed by backward, punishment loving administrators still lack heated swimming pools and round-the-clock guards.
There are indoor play facilities but they are limited to a radio and record player controlled by the man in the dark booth overlooking the area, and some exercise equipment.
