doesn’t carry any weight with the hard cases from the federal maximum security prisons as well as those whose crimes, if caught, would have placed them there. They sneer at the “County daisies,” as being lightweight and never having survived any tough time. They are sort of making a stupid case for attributing some sort of “honor” to having a self-imposed hard time. Ostensibly they are destined to become card-carrying communist members of the Democrat Party.
But, to hell with the absurd politics. McCarthy will get them if they achieve an iota of prominence. Let me tell you about what really goes on inside Rockford County. It is a dorm type facility that resembles a college campus more than a prison. The facility is usually reserved for non-violent offenders, as loosely defined, most of whom are white collar criminals including elected officials. Thus, County prisons are also referred to as “Club Fed.”
But contrary to popular belief, life inside a County prison is far from luxurious. Some facilities have yet to contract for the installation of a heated swimming pool with a 24 hour lifeguard.
This Neanderthal type of punishment still reigns supreme in some radically conservative state circles. Yes, County inmates may have it better than most in some aspects. But the problems that inmates face in other facilities also exist in County prisons.
Cruel and unusual punishment is the norm, as the vicious prison authorities inundate the lonesome population with currently unachievable happy thoughts as provided by piped in recordings of Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. The merciless clarity was unconscionable.
