My plan was obvious, perhaps too much so; to hole up here when light and prowl on foot under the cover of darkness. Unlike country areas like Rockford, big cities like Chicago have creeps lurking in the darkness all the time. I’d be obscured in the company of other undesirables. I hadn’t previously realized that big cities were good for something, other than a reason for leaving.
