The Party Invite

Tony (Toro) Calabrese stopped by “Migliacccio’s Funeral Home” to pay his respects to no one in particular, and while I was offering him a discount mass card to no avail, he “asked” me to fill in for him at a party that evening. One of his useful and endearing talents was that he had a way of asking when he was really telling, the distinction apparent, but also apparently easily deniable. This embodied the terrible irony and human betrayals of a totalitarian masking himself as a benign instrument of deliverance. Either that, or he was just exhibiting sociability as he best knew how.
