I leaned back against one of the flaking walls and once again looked the place over without haste, without interest, as if I was looking at a slab of cold meat. Perhaps I thought that appropriate, having looked at people that way. The dark green, lead paint was supposed to last forever, and in a sense it did, though probably not in the way originally understood. Being misinformed has always been all too communal an everyday, low-end pastime.
I especially liked the deep blue radio with the oversized deep blue knobs which sat on top of the refrigerator. It wasn’t a lot, but someone had left a few days worth of heart-attack-
