Chapter Thirty-Three
Pepsi Cooking
When camping, there’s one stove that’s far superior to all the others: The Pepsi-can stove. It’s my favorite camping tool, and you can make it yourself by gluing some parts of aluminum cans together and drilling some holes. Here is ours in action:

What I like about it:
- It only costs a few dollars to make (Google “beverage can stove” for directions).
- It weighs less than an ounce!
- It’s tiny—you can keep it in your cook kit.
- It’s reliable. There are no moving parts (mine has never failed).
- It can burn many different fuels. I prefer “Heet,” a gas line water remover, available at all auto parts stores, that comes in a convenient container).
To use it, you simply pour in some fuel, light it, and suspend your pot above it. You can bring a grate with you or find some rocks to support the pot.
