Clinical Significance Of Dental Photography

Traditional Dental Records have always included three main types

of records:

1. Study models (or digitized dental scans). 2. Radiographs; normally a Panoramic view (OPG) and/or a Lateral

Cephalometric view.

3. Extra and intra oral clinical photographs.

Each of these types of records provides certain diagnostic

information to the clinician to aid him/her in diagnosing and

case. More recently, other types of digital records have come into

play such as CBCTs, facial and Intra-oral scans. Although all of

these types of records are important - some indeed, essential - for

the proper diagnosis and planning of our treatment, the push for

consistent clinical photographic record-taking for ALL dental

specialties has only been emphasized relatively recently, with the

rise of digital workflows. Strangely enough, dental photography

used to be neglected by many clinicians - up until maybe a decade

ago.

Needless to say, there has always been the need for photographic
