Chapter-16 An SE after marriage

It has been quite a while now. And I am not a newlywed SE anymore. In this little time, I have learnt a lot about running (from) the married life. Being in the league of ‘married’ SE is a lot different from being a bachelor SE. As I have already described, during the first few days after marriage there were some adjustment problems. And then there were a lot more….

Let me list down some common scenarios in my life

Scenario 1

My wife says, “While coming back please bring some Tomatoes and Onions”

“But I am not coming back soon dear. I have to stay late today”

“What ? Why is it that you who have to stay back always? Why they don’t find the other guys for the extra work?”

“I have to stay as I am the Team Lead. I have to make sure the team is working”

“Then why don’t they pay you for the extra work?”

….

Scenario 2

Get it reviewed from the Product Quality team and send it tonight” (Whispering)

“What? Who are you talking to at this time of night?”

“ Oh! You got up dear. Actually there was a delivery and…”

“Then why didn’t you sleep in the office tonight”

…..

Scenario 3

Trrrrrring… the phone rings

“What? Oh god! Start working on the fix. Yes, I will be there soon”

“Where are you going? We have not completed our shopping yet.”

Sorry dear! I have a critical issue waiting for me”

It is just as expected. You should have married a Computer”

…..

At times my wife becomes emotional about my work. Once she was proud to be an SE’s wife. But today, she sympathizes herself for being married to a SE.

O dear, you have such a hard life. I wish you were not a Software Engineer”

In my journey as an SE, I faced a number of issues and I solved them successfully. However, as relationships are not logical, they are difficult to solve. But then we are all SE’s, the ones who can adjust to any situation and solve any problem.

I am sure; I will be able to debug it one day

The End
