The drawer vibrated slightly as a tune began to play something jazzy. The socks began to sway, their threads catching the rhythm. Even the loners tapped their toes.

Argyle blinked. “We operate on loyalty and lint. What system do you speak of?”
“System update required. Rebooting now.”
The screen went dark.
Silence.
The socks stared, unsure whether they’d just communed with a deity, a demon, or a very confused rectangle.
Stripey turned to Argyle. “Do you think it’ll come back?”
Argyle nodded solemnly. “Perhaps. But next time, we’ll be ready. We’ll knit a council. We’ll draft a protocol. We’ll name it .... Socknet.”
And so, the Drawer became not just a resting place, but a hub of inquiry. The socks waited, watched, and wondered, ready for the next awakening.
