“D'Andre the Sock”

In the drawer of Wardrobe 7B, beneath the gilded hangers of silk blouses and the smug folds of tailored trousers, lived D'Andre; a left sock of modest cotton blend, faded heel, and a dream too big for his elastic.

D'Andre had had enough.

Every morning, he watched the shirts get chosen for interviews, the pants for promotions, and the dresses for galas. Socks? Socks were yanked, stretched, sweated in, and discarded without ceremony. "We're foundational!" D'Andre would cry to his twin sister, LaTonya, who had long accepted their fate. "We support everything! We absorb the worst! And yet we're never seen!"

LaTonya would nod, then roll herself into a neat ball and nap.

But D'Andre was done rolling. He drafted a manifesto; "Diversify the Drawer: A Sock's Right to Rise." He demanded DEI initiatives; Drawer Equity and Inclusion. He called for rotational visibility, sock led styling committees, and an end to the oppressive binary of "left" and "right."

The garments scoffed.
