Chapter 32
Gordon arranged to meet on Saturday at Tom’s house and listen to their accounts, while seeing his children react to the nuance of a visiting stranger. Tom had only one experience of seeing Eleanor appear as a physical being, and in the months that followed this first encounter, she made herself known simply in faint whispers and clouded shadows. Gordon, however, according to his claim, always saw the dead as he did anyone else, and Tom wanted to test this by determining if he could, in fact, see Eleanor and accurately describe her.
They arranged to meet on Saturday. Gordon was to meet Tom's family and listen to their accounts, while seeing his children react to the nuance of a visiting stranger. Although Gordon was a psychiatrist with well controlled emotions. Tom could sense the anxiety in his voice as their conversation came to a close, and realized the depth of his fear. He was an educated man, but from his first experiences, Tom was also accustomed to fear and keenly recognized it in others, especially when people reacted to the clash between what should be and what is.
