Chapter 70
By the time she woke, the moon had taken up its usual residence in the night sky. Sitting up, Aurora looked over at Maya’s body and listened to her chest one more time for good measure. Sliding down to the floor, she wondered what to do. As young as she was, Aurora had never been confronted by death before, save for the occasional funeral, but she was somewhat uncomfortable by the sight of the well-prepared dead as well. She knew she was not strong enough to dig a substantially deep grave, much less drag Maya’s body out to it. After struggling to think, she decided the RV should be the crypt to hold her earthly remains, and stripping the back bed, she used the sheets as a shroud, rolling them under and tying them around Maya’s body.
Taking what she needed, Aurora left what had become a monument on wheels, a testimony of sorts to the love of her life – the stars in her sky. Having locked the door, she walked around the RV and, using a knife procured from a nearby store, flattened the tires, ensuring that no one would be tempted to move the vehicle. It would remain there for as long as time persisted.
