Chapter 66

Maya and Aurora had finally acquired everything they needed to get through the spring, but although the nearly constant rain kept them indoors, they still managed to keep themselves busy. Between spells of warmth, they found themselves in bed keeping each other warm, by whatever means gave them pleasure. Even though the telling of time had become outdated, Aurora was able to assess the oncoming of one season after the next by looking at the sky. Fall and winter were typified by a deepening blue, while spring and summer a fading blue. She began teaching Maya the tricks of survival, starting with the ability to read nature – the behavior of birds, the colors of sunrise and sunset, how the clouds behaved during an oncoming storm. This was only the beginning of a lengthy period of training, as there would be far more to learn, and Maya soaked up everything.

After teaching Maya to build a fire, Aurora thought it was time to begin repairs to the RV. Retrieving the tools they needed from the rear hold, they searched the campground and discovered other RVs still retaining their wheels – completely intact and fully inflated. The process took hours, but by nightfall, the job was done and without injuries. Inflating them led to a far different kind of exhaustion, as a pump had to be obtained. Of course, having forgotten to get one at the auto store, the girls took the time to walk there and retrieve one. However, for the sake of efficiency, they took as many as they could find. Performing this task required another day, but a celebration of their success was not forthcoming, as exhaustion had overtaken them. A couple of days' rest was certainly in order.

A few days later, Maya and Aurora awoke with the last week’s pain and stiffness having vanished from their bodies. It was time to take a break. Stepping out of the RV, Aurora looked around at the beauty of the summer landscape. It had been quite some time since she had gone hiking, and while in college there was little if any time for such activities. As she gazed at the mountains and pine-covered ridges, she felt her skin rise with goose flesh. While absorbing the grandeur of a summer’s day, Aurora wondered if Maya ever possessed an appreciation for the outdoors or the need to step out into nature. Just then, Maya stepped up next to her and, taking her hand, looked around at what nature had created. Her reaction was clearly not what Aurora had hoped for.

“You’re not really into this, are you?” she asked. Maya took a deep breath and noticed how clean the air was, but that seemed to be the extent of her love for the outdoors.

“Not really,” she replied.

Aurora now saw herself on a mission, to bring Maya to a deep admiration of what she had been living in for the past few months. Even the storms of Cle Elum displayed a dark beauty of their own. “Well,” Aurora said. “I think I need to introduce you to the outdoors. You can’t live in this part of the country without falling in love with it.” Maya leaned over to her and, kissing her on the neck, replied with words that Aurora never thought she would hear a second time.

“The only thing I’m in love with is you.” Turning towards Maya, their lips met in a soft, warm kiss while gazing at each other with wanting eyes.

“You want to go back in the RV and have some fun?” Maya asked.

As much as she wanted to follow Maya’s obvious lead, she felt a strong need to hike through the pines and stand at the top of a mountain with arms up to the sky in celebration of her existence. “Tell you what,” she began. “You go on a hike with me, and I’ll let you do whatever you want. What do you think?”

Maya’s face flushed with arousal and anticipation. “I don’t know,” she replied. “That could take a few hours.”

With a slight smile, Aurora responded teasingly. “Which part, the hike or the other part,” she replied.

Sliding a hand deep into the middle of Aurora’s backside, she provided the only answer her eager soul could muster.

“The second, of course,” she said. Aurora took a deep breath of insane arousal and, nearly giving in, replied to Maya’s advance. “Fuck,” she replied. “You always know where my sensitive spots are, don’t you?”

Moving closer, Maya put an arm around her waist and whispered her reply.

“That’s right.”

So as not to make her feel rejected, Aurora kissed her softly on the lips and, while taking her hands, led her further from the RV.

“We can play later if we hike now,” she said. “Besides, look around – it’s beautiful. Why wouldn’t you want to go for a hike?” Maya just wasn’t an outdoors person but agreed to go, counting on Aurora to stay true to her word. In fact, she was counting on it.
