Chapter 63
Placed in a wheelchair by emergency room staff, the young woman, who was in her first year as a psychiatric resident, was taken down and assessed. Doctors quickly diagnosed her as having become emotionally overcome and reacted physically. Housekeeping shortly arrived to clean up the floor outside the quiet room. When this had been accomplished, the attending physician looked in the quiet room again at whatever it was that had been left behind when Caspian disappeared. He considered obtaining a sample for lab testing but realized the hospital lab doesn’t run tests on ash or any other similar material. This is usually a police matter, and not wanting to upset other patients, he decided to forego notifying the local authorities. He left cleanup of the quiet room to the same woman who had just dealt with the puddle of stomach contents left behind by the woman who still sat in the emergency room. Having made his decision, the attending physician walked away to continue his rounds with the remaining resident.
