Chapter 4

On the outskirts of town was a small airport. Ordinarily, most people made the drive to Albany, but this small airstrip served to rush a select few to any of several cities: Albany, New York, and Boston. It was also home to a skydiving club and was set far enough from town so as not to place its members in danger of collision with anything man-made. However, on this particular day, the club would experience an event that would force its doors to close indefinitely. In the hanger were three single-engine Piper Cub airplanes that were used for the club’s skydivers and occasional flying lessons. Thanks to a talented mechanic, they were always pristinely maintained, and their tanks constantly filled. Yet, there were some things that even a mechanic could not fix, and for a small group of first-time skydivers, an odd twist of circumstances would not only end their lives but leave an eternal scar on those living in the town a few miles away.
