The sun had set when they when they found the embankment with their

backpacks and a minimal amount of camera equipment. All three had their phones out with flash lights on as they climbed over the waist high guardrail and slow walked their way down into a cluster of tall man sized bushes.

“God damn it, why the fuck did I come down here?” asked Max as he wedged himself through.

“Experience, remember?” said Dylan.

“We’re gonna experience Lyme Disease dickhead.”

“If we find a barn we’re camping in it tonight.” said Vlad.

“Yeah, fuck you. You can camp in a murder barn.” said Max.

“I’m not staying in a fucking hundred year old barn either. Christ the way you snore Max you’ll bring the whole thing down on us. Plus who the hell knows if we’ll find the god damn barn.” Dylan said.

They came through the bushes and the ground under their feet felt softer. They flashed their lights in front of themselves and could see the ground was covered with stunted vegetation.

“Must be an animal trail.” said Dylan.

“Or a The Beast’s trail.” Vlad said in a wavery voice.

“Aw shit that’s a good line, I want Max to film you saying that when we have better footing.”

The air was warm and the lack of rain made the ground hard and mud nonexistent, the air was thick with a green scent that felt cloying. Their steps were the only sounds in the night, not even crickets chirped.

“How long have we been walking?” asked Max.

“Just ten minutes.” said Vlad who was slowly sweating off his cover up.
