the snake
formed slowly
others say
the jaded reptile eyes
were forced open
by a rabid desire
born in the back of the mind
regardless
of how the sin began
the curse
twisted his body
turning him
from a healthy obsession
with Heaven
toward a fascination
with the ground
below
sucking him
down to his belly
to slither in the garbage
with the guilty
