Glenn

Glenn avoided the caravan park. He heard the sound of distant sirens, but although he didn’t know the area, he guessed which direction to head in. So circled the murder scene by two miles. The school came into view and he knew exactly where to go to get back to the horse sanctuary.

He was still angry, and stormed into the bungalow where he saw Dorothy and Sam sitting watching television.

“Fucking Kieran!” he spat, retrieving the weapons from the jacket and wielding them like he was about to use them…because he was.

“What happened?” Sam asked.

“I just need to do something first. Once I’ve done that and calmed down, I’ll tell you. Dorothy we’re having horse meat tonight so get prepared to carve up a horse, and put the rest in the freezer”.

“We haven’t killed the horses yet,” Sam said.

“I’m going to do that now,” he said, gripping tightly onto the claw-hammer and box-cutter knife, leaving out the back into the yard and walking across to the stables, passing by Boyd, Chantelle and Jordan, just casually chatting.

He was focused on the stables and entered the first one where a majestic dark brown Gidran horse stood.

Ten minutes it took for him to kill all three animals, and for several minutes, the sound of screaming horses punctuated the air.

When he came back to the bungalow, covered in blood, the others were all there waiting for him.

“Okay Glenn,” said Sam, “what have you done?”

He told them of chasing Kieran, and the student in the caravan park whose head he put the hammer in.

So he was chastised by all the others like a naughty schoolboy, sitting in the armchair, arms folded, not making eye-contact, knowing that it was justified.

They were right.

He had put them all in danger.

“…put us all in danger..!”

“…we may have to move now. Change bodies…”

“…really fucked everything up”.

“Not necessarily,” said Herbie, rather calmly, “all he has to do is stay hidden in here until we find a new body for him. Only he has to change. Then if we get rid of the body, anyone comes knocking. No Glenn”. They all agreed, their paranoia at having to move out and change bodies deflated. Even Glenn nodded.

He had no come-backs, knowing he had put them all in danger in the heat of the moment.

“Alright,” Dorothy said, “horsemeat then. Come on you lot, help me out”.

They all went out into the yard, except Sam and Glenn, still glistening with horse blood.

“I know I fucked up,” he said, “Kieran. He got picked up by the police, so he’s probably in a cell”. Sam nodded.

“He will be in a cell, and we could probably find out where, but going in there to kill him would be worse than killing a student in a caravan park. Let’s just face it. Kieran’s gone. When he comes out, do you think he’ll go back to the caravans? No. We’ll just have to discuss what the fuck we’re all going to do.

Stay, go, whatever. But if we do get a chance to kill Kieran, we will, but we’re not going to stake out the police-station. I think most people think he’s a bit of a headcase anyway, banging on about possessed people. What a strange boy to believe in such things,” he said with a humourless smile. “So until we get you in a new body, you remain hidden, but there is one thing you can do. I found a tin of delo monopox in the garage,”

“What’s that?”

“It’s very strong glue. So our friend we have tied up in there you can drag into a stable. Get the others to help you if you like and take his chains and clothes off and glue him to the wall. Got some things I want to do to him”. Glenn sighed, and stood up.

“Go on, before you say goodbye to the sky”.

So Glenn did.
