Concluding Thoughts on Essay Series 3
As these essays demonstrate, women are capable of much important learning, discovering, creating, and leading. Their accomplishments often aren’t recognized or taught, unless people choose to educate themselves.
Everyone can learn about women’s capabilities and accomplishments in the arts and sciences. Women can realize that there is no biological reason that holds them back from being as great as their pioneering foremothers. Men can realize that women are capable of accomplishments beyond what society’s misogyny dictates.
Recommendations for education are to:
- Find out what women have accomplished in the subjects that are of most interest to you.
- Educate friends and families about women’s and girls’ accomplishments.
- Speak up publicly about what women have accomplished and speak against stereotypes that limit women and girls, when it is safe to do so.
- Advocate for educational curricula that mainstream knowledge and discussion of women’s accomplishments.
