The original Latus Lumber and Feed

Mill was one of the area’s oldest

buildings built in 1802, a gristmill on

Sauquoit Creek between Clayville and

Cassville. There were two wheels

affixed to three grinding stones, which

ground grist, buckwheat and wheat

flour. The mill remained in the Latus

family for three generations. During

the 1930s, lumber sales were added to

the feed business.
