Chapter 23G: Tracking Progress at Home
Many parents find it motivating, both for themselves and their child, to keep a simple visual record of progress throughout treatment.
• Take a standardized smile photo at the start of treatment, and then at consistent intervals (for example, every three months), using the same lighting and angle each time.
• Keep a simple written log of appointment dates, any adjustments made, and any concerns raised, which can be genuinely useful if you ever need a second opinion or switch providers.
• For interceptive appliances requiring daily parent involvement (like expander turns), a simple checkbox calendar posted somewhere visible at home helps prevent missed days.
Progress in orthodontic treatment is usually gradual enough that it's hard to notice day-to-day. A simple photo log is often the easiest way to actually see how far treatment has come.
