At the end of the third month of the season's campaign, on June 30th, Baltimore held the lead, with a percentage of victories of
.712, with Boston second, having .667, while New York had gotten back into the first division with .564. On July 5th the Giants had worked up to third place with .593, preceded by Baltimore and Boston, with figures of .679 and .672, respectively. It was a close fight at this time, while New York was close behind.
The Giants were in the process of showing the importance of good pitching. They would finish with the third lowest of twelve teams in runs per game at 6.92, as opposed to Baltimore’s 9.08
