STATE FAIR CAKE

1 1/2 c. sugar

1/2 c. butter

2 eggs

1 c. water, or half milk and half water

2 1/4 c. flour

2 tsp. baking powder

Salt

 Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs and beat until white or light in color (this is the secret to this cake). Mix flour and baking powder and add alternately with liquid.

FOR SPICE CAKE, ADD:

1/2 tsp. cloves

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. nutmeg

 FOR MARBLE CAKE, TAKE HALF OF MIXTURE AND ADD:

1 sq. chocolate

1 tsp. cloves

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

 Or use half of mixture and add red food coloring.
