Fablehaven – As Told by Maggie

Hi! My name is Maggie Sandora. I‘m Kendra and Seth Sorenson’s, heirs to the land of Fablehaven, 2nd cousin. This is what Kendra sent me a couple months ago:
DRINK THE MILK.
A little weird, I know. But this is what I got a few days later:
COME TO GRANDPA SORENSON’S. DRINK THE MILK.
`This makes only slightly more sense. But, I still did. I went to the Sorensons house. Kendra and Seth were staying there. This is my journal of what happened while I was there…
Once I was there, Kendra gave me a key, and she told me to take a peek under the rocking horse. I looked and found 3 chocolate roses and a note. The roses were really good! The note said to drink the milk.
I figured Kendra didn’t want me to drink the milk from the store. So, I drank the only other milk I could think of- the unclean milk Dale, our groundskeeper, put outside for the bugs in the garden. I put my finger in it, closed my eyes and tasted it. It was delicious! I opened my eyes and was shocked. All around me, instead of bugs, I saw fairies! I noticed Kendra and Seth standing sheepishly by the edge of the garden. “What’s going on here?” I wanted to know. “Well…” Seth began. “TELL ME NOW.” I demanded. “Ok, calm down.” Kendra ordered. Then, she told me this:
“When me and Seth first came here, we got the same key thing. We went on a few adventures. Later, I found out I was Fairykind. Seth is a Shadow Charmer. Welcome to Fablehaven, where Grandpa Sorenson is the caretaker, and where magical animals call home.”
I have to admit, at first I thought they were kidding. When I finally realized they were serious I passed out. According to Seth, I was asleep “Forever!” According to Kendra, I was only out cold for an hour. I believe Kendra.
Fast forward a couple days. I’m sitting in the kitchen, eating my cereal with Tanu, a Potion Master, when suddenly Grandma rushes in. “Help! Kendra and Seth have been kidnapped!” she cries. I’m instantly alert. Later, we climb into a jeep, ready to go. We are armed with-

Anyway, I was super excited as we drove away, I decided to pull out Vasilis to see what power it gave me. I pulled it out of the sheath and immediately the blade was covered in ice.. “Maggie!” Grandma cried. “No!”
I quickly shoved it back in the sheath. I around guiltily. Everyone was staring at me. “What?” I pouted. “What did I do?”
Tanu grinned. “You bonded with Vasilis, that’s what you did.” “Oh.” I mused this over a moment, then “Cool!” I asked Grandma to tell me who kidnapped Seth and Kendra.
“The kids were kidnapped by the Empress. She is the ruler of the Ice kingdom, otherwise known as the North Pole. She also rules the South Pole, but her nephew, the Ice Lord, takes care of it.” she said.
We drove up to just about the most Northern tip of Canada, then our helicopter pilot, Aaron Stone, flew us to the real North Pole, which is protected by powerful distractor spells. Aaron couldn’t go too close or he would be too taken over by the spell, and would crash.
We hiked about a mile or two, then saw a huge castle in the distance, about a ½ mile away. Made of ice. Seriously. It was crazy. Anyway, we realized we had to get in. I noticed it looked like I was glowing a little bit. I figured it was just the reflection of the snow and kept moving. As I got closer to the castle, I started glowing a little brighter. “Uhh, guys?” I whispered. “I’m glowing.” Tanu turned and gasped. “You are glowing!”
I paled. “Is that bad?”
“No, that means you are a Snow Sister!” Grandpa exclaimed. “A Snow Sister is someone who has bonded with snow and ice, as long as it is close enough to a magical source. In our case, the source is the Ice Castle.” Well, that kind of came as a shock to me, until I realized it had kind of been showing, all these years. I have always loved Winter, and my favorite animals are penguins and polar bears. When I was 9, my family and I went to Greenland (Which doesn’t make sense, by the way, because Iceland is actually warmer than Greenland.) for a vacation. I went on a hike, and got lost. I got a little frostbitten but incredibly, I didn’t feel it.
I guess that made me a Snow Sister, just like Seth and Kendra each got powers a special way. As we got closer, I started glowing brighter and the rest of me started glowing. It started getting dark, so we stopped for the night. Grandma told me to think of an igloo and close my eyes. I closed my eyes and thought of a snow house. I heard a few sharp intakes of breath around me, and Grandma urging me to keep thinking. Then, I opened my eyes and blacked out.
When I finally woke up, it was about midnight. Everyone was all sitting in an ice house. This house was exactly like the one I was thinking of. “Good night.” I mumbled to my family. Then, I fell asleep again.
