We knew they would come
Things have settled down. The four of us now were making good money off the inventions I was making based on the future machines that had been left to me by Emmily Proctor. I had decided that I was not going to take things from the future. What she had taken was enough.
In reverse engineering these items, I was able to get patents on the power sources and various other components. Right now, the corporation holds over one hundred patents that are now in demand worldwide. Most of the new innovative products contain at least one or more of our patented items.
Martha and Carmine also wanted to drift away from that other side since they became partners in our corporation. The royalties alone have put each of us in the billionaire club. We still do favors for special clients. But those are limited to rare occasions.
By the way, Wouldn’t you know. One of my friends went on an expedition to Everest and came back with a camera he found. I bought it and now we are seeing if anyone would like to buy it. There are two initials on it, GM.
My out right inventions are a five to one bust. Those that fail, we still write off. Martha’s firm sees to that. Carmine has finished selling the last of the coins. You may have seen his commercials on television. A horde of this years or that year of a certain style of silver dollars have been discovered. He now has gone legitimate.
Now that we are set, Even the last of the steamer trunks have been sold to a large movie studio as vintage props. Little do they know.
I have not opened to laptop in a while so we were both startled when it started to beep loudly. I open it and a voice comes out. “Is this Steve and Shela?” I say yes.
“Good. Then you know of us. Emmily left you a note about our item in your cellar. We are here to bring our lost traveler’s body home. May we come in.”
I call Shela and she comes here. Then I tell them that we welcome them.
It is startling when a light shimmers and we see a land with two people standing there. They both step through and introduce themselves as Krea and Doaza. Both look like small humans. Fair in appearance but only a little over five feet tall.
We have them sit and offer something to drink. They tell us that they remotely tested our water and would like some cold water, Shela gets some for all of us.
“Before we get started, you have two partners Martha and Carmine. We took the liberty of using your voice and asked them to come over. They should be here anytime now. Please let them in and act like you wanted them here.
Now the doorbell rings and I let them in. Both are cautious when they see our guests but are reassured when I tell them that they are friendly. The guests introduce themselves and the male starts to explain why they are here.
“Our brother went off on his own many of your generations ago to explore this world. It took many long years for us to receive his crash signal. It was part of the box you have. Time flows differently on many worlds. Yours is one of them. In the years that he was gone from us. Over a hundred years have passed for you but it has only been thirty on our world.”
Now Doaza takes up the tale. “My mate here is the brother of Glax. His ship design has been used for a long time but I was developing the new way to travel that Steve and Shela saw. It, for lack of a better term is a door that we can open to any world. All we have to see is the opening area. Your box has shown us pictures of this house and rooms. Most of the other worlds, still use the ships.
Krea tells us that other worlds visit us regularly. It is a wonderful vacation spot. Now on to the reason. Martha and Carmine, there is one thing they did not tell. My brother crashed and died in Arora, Texas in 1897. Those kind people buried him in their cemetery but needed to move him because of the growing inquiries about the crash.
This house belonged to Emmily Proctor. Daughter of the land owner in Arora. They brought his remains here. We now need to go into the cellar.”
I led the way down and over to the small stone.
Krea looks at all of us . “Please do not be frightened. Our race can change forms to suit the world we visit. That is so we can blend in. To honor my brother as we bring him to the surface we must be in our normal form,”
With that, now there are two silver skinned beings. They are just the way everyone has described.
“Now you see why the door. There have been too many crashes on this world and others to the point that they stopped production of the craft. We will talk to you about that at a later date but now we must pray the recover him.”
They look at the dirt. Then the same shimmer that we saw appears. They reach down and reverently take each bone from inside that cement box. They place them into a small box that looks like it would not hold a coin. That box sucked up each and every bone. They asked if they could have the marker and I tell them they could.
Martha and Carmine were fascinated by those two. Shela, I could tell was actually relieved. She thanked them for taking him home. “Now we can put in a real concrete floor.”
They had us get on the stares. He pulls out a device and speaks into it. Instantly, the entire floor is dried, cured concrete. Krea hands it to me and tells me that I need it to put out new revolutionary inventions.
In an instant, they are gone. The four of us go up and sit at the table. I bring out the whiskey and four glasses. With drinks poured. I look at this thing that is the size of a remote.
I pick it up and look at the others. Then I say, “Four baseball sized sapphires.”
We hear, “Owner Steve recognized.” We each pick up our own sapphire. All four of us need a change of under ware..
Shela says, “Cement to gems. Can you create anything?”
“Owner Shela recognized, the answer is yes.”
“Make a duplicate of yourself for owner Martha and owner Carmine.”
There on the table are duplicates in front of each. I tell them to pick it up and speak into it. They do and both get the same message “Owner recognized.”
“Just a caution” Martha says as she just stares at her remote. “We need to be very careful on how we use this. Steve use this for your inventions.”
I start to laugh almost hysterically. I get up and get a box out of the closet. “This is the small junk that is left over from when we gutted this place.” I pull out the exact same thing and hand it to Shela. I ask Shela to Speak into it.
“Owner Shela recognized.” All she can say is “Emmily couldn’t you have left a note for me?”
I tell the two that Emmily left notes for me with the harvester and under the rock explaining the body. I look at Shela and say, “She had to know that the three of us would have one and made sure that you had one also.”
Shela just said, “A bottle of the finest sipping whiskey.”
She opened it and asked us if we wanted another round. It was the smoothest I have ever tasted. We all sipped and enjoyed it. We all just thought and then I spoke out loud.
“That door they called it. It looks very interesting. I wonder what the theory is behind it.” I forgot that I was holding my remote. There in front of me, on the table, were quite a few books on opening a door to another world.
We each looked at each other. Shela just held out her hand and said to the two, “Keys.” They gave them to her and she put them in the closet safe. She came back to the table and clinked our glasses. “Adventures and inventions.”
