CHAPTER 26 – LOVE IN THE CAGE
The cabin walls seemed to shrink as the night dragged on.
Meera lay wide awake, feeling every tick of the clock like a slow death. Aarav slept beside her, his arm locked around her waist like a shackle he would never release.
And somewhere deep inside her, a horrifying thought bloomed: Was this love... or a beautiful prison?
The air was thick with unsaid things. With the ghosts of their broken trust. With the taste of blood and kisses that never quite healed the wounds.
When Aarav stirred awake, his eyes instantly found hers in the darkness. Burning.
Begging.
Claiming.
"You're mine," he said, voice raw, almost animalistic.
Not a question.
Not a plea.
A command.
Meera shivered.
She should have been terrified. But something darker coiled inside her. Something that wanted to belong to him... even if it destroyed her.
Love wasn’t tender between them anymore.
It was a cage.
Built from promises, secrets, and scars.
And she...
She had thrown away the key.
Aarav pulled her onto his lap without warning.
The movement was rough, desperate — like he needed to feel her breathing just to believe she was real. Their lips crashed together, messy and wild.
It wasn’t sweet.
It was survival.
It was rage and devotion tangled into something brutal.
Meera clung to his shirt, fisting the fabric, feeling the thunder of his heart against her own.
Like two storms colliding — no survivors guaranteed.
"I would burn the world for you," Aarav growled against her skin, teeth grazing her neck.
"I would lock you away if it meant keeping you safe."
His words should have horrified her. They should have sent her running.
But here in the darkness, with the world hunting them and death around every corner...
His madness was the only thing that made sense.
Their bodies moved like they were memorizing each other for the last time. Touching.
Tasting.
Taking.
This wasn’t romance. This was surrender.
And somewhere between gasps and whispered names, Meera realized something terrifying:
She didn’t want to be free.
She wanted to live and die in his cage. In his madness.
In the wildfire he lit inside her.
Later, when they lay tangled and trembling, Meera stared at the cracked ceiling.
"You can’t protect me from everything," she whispered, voice hoarse. Aarav turned his head, his broken eyes catching hers.
"I can try," he said, like a vow. "Even if it kills me."
Outside, footsteps crunched in the woods.
Enemies.
Traitors.
Maybe even allies who had turned. Inside, Meera reached for the gun Aarav had placed under the mattress. She kissed him one last time, fierce and final.
"If we die tonight," she breathed against his lips,
"let’s make it a beautiful massacre." Aarav grinned — a dark, devastating smile — and loaded his weapon. Together, caged by love and fury, they prepared to unleash hell. Because in a world where loyalty was a lie and survival was a myth... Only the ones mad enough to love without limits could win.
Or die trying.
