CHAPTER 10 – FIRST KISS, FIRST SCAR
The night swallowed them whole. Meera and Aarav ran through narrow alleys, their shadows long and stretched under the silver gaze of the moon. The city had turned into a labyrinth of betrayal and blood, and every heartbeat sounded like a warning. Their breaths came in short, ragged bursts, adrenaline dripping off their skin like rain. Behind them, faint shouts echoed, a grim reminder that danger was not a distant threat — it was a knife pressed to their backs.
Finally, Aarav shoved open a hidden door tucked behind an abandoned bookstore. They stumbled inside, crashing into dusty shelves and the smell of old paper. Silence blanketed them for a heartbeat.
Meera leaned against the door, her chest heaving, her entire body trembling from the chase, the fear, the thrill. "Are you okay?" Aarav asked, stepping closer.
She wanted to nod, to lie, but her body betrayed her. Her knees buckled slightly, and before she could fall, Aarav caught her. His arms were strong, steady. Familiar.
And suddenly, the world tilted.
The past, the betrayals, the bloodstains — they faded, leaving just the two of them, bound together by more than circumstance.
Aarav cupped her face, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw, so tender it almost broke her.
"Meera..." he whispered, like her name was a prayer, a curse, a lifeline. And then he kissed her. It wasn't soft. It wasn't gentle. It was wild.
It was desperate.
It was two broken souls finding a moment of salvation in the middle of hell.
Meera clutched at his shirt, pulling him closer, needing to feel him, to anchor herself to the only real thing left in her crumbling world. Aarav deepened the kiss, his hands roaming her back, pressing her flush against him. Every touch was a claim, every breath a battle. They kissed like it was the only way to survive.
But survival demanded more than just passion.
The door behind them suddenly rattled. A warning shot cracked through the air, embedding itself into the wooden frame inches from Meera's head. Aarav broke the kiss, eyes blazing with fury and fear.
"Stay down," he growled, pushing her behind a stack of fallen books. Another shot rang out, and this time, Aarav wasn't fast enough. The bullet grazed his arm, a burning kiss of violence that tore through skin and muscle.
"Aarav!" Meera cried, crawling toward him, panic clawing at her throat. "It's nothing," he hissed, ripping a strip of cloth from his shirt and tying it around the bleeding wound with trembling fingers.
Blood soaked through the makeshift bandage almost immediately. Meera grabbed his hands. "Let me help."
Their eyes met, and for the first time, she saw the truth: Aarav wasn't invincible. He bled. He hurt. He feared. And yet, he still chose to fight. Tears blurred her vision, but she blinked them away. This wasn't the time for weakness.
She pressed her forehead against his, their breaths mingling in the small, stolen space between them. "I'm not leaving you," she whispered fiercely.
He smiled, a broken, breathtaking thing. "You already kissed me, sunshine. You're stuck with me now." Despite the pain, despite the blood, he kissed her again — slower this time, with a tenderness that made her heart ache.
This was their first scar. A mark that would never fully heal. A memory etched into skin and soul. Sirens wailed in the distance. The enemy was closing in. Meera pulled back, her hands cradling his face. "We move. Together. Always." Aarav nodded, his gaze fierce, unyielding.
"Together," he vowed, sealing the promise with another kiss, tasting the blood, the tears, the future they were willing to burn the world for. Hand in hand, they slipped into the night once more — a pair of broken hearts beating defiantly against a world determined to tear them apart. Their love was a battlefield now. And they were ready to fight for every bruised, bloody, beautiful moment of it.
