The quest

The quest for that far sight door is continued down Elbah’s line. Each generation has that quest instilled in their vary soul. They have all the notebooks, the research that their family has done.

Each generation moves that research a little further until Jaezl one day gets frustrated, as her predecessors did.

“Why don’t I just walk away from this stupid research. All these files. All these journals and for what? All dead ends that we stupidly try to build on.”

Her mate shrugs. She blows up like this at least once a month but his time he decides to do something about it. He has a plan. It may get him kicked out of their bed but he needs to do this.

Her usual routine, after a blow up, is to leave for the day and go into the woods and yell at every tree, bird and other things that she runs into. In other words, she vents until she can calm down. That is usually by nightfall.

When she comes back, it is the usual. She apologizes to him, they go to bed and make up. In the morning she makes breakfast, then returns to her work room.

“What the fuck?” she yells.

Where the door to her room was, now there is nothing but a freshly painted blank wall.

No door, not even a trace. He did a beautiful job. She comes back to the kitchen, where he is casually finishing his breakfast.

“What did you do to my research? Open that door right now,”

“Nope. That is solid wood behind that wall. You would need the powers of Elrick to get through. All that stuff in there is distracting you. All you do is pour through that old research.”

He hands her a blank journal then continues.

“Take this outside. Start by writing your goal, ‘Make a door to other worlds.’ I want you to forget what others have written. Half, by your own words, have gone down the wrong rabbit hole. This is your end. I can make a door, everyone can. I don’t think about it. I just can. You need to ask yourself, how do I make a door? How do I make one tto the

ocean? What is the difference between a door to the end of this road and to the other side of the world? I would think that the difference is what you are looking for.”

She looks at him. Is he that stupid? If it was that simple, it would have been solved before.

She did not even hide that thought. So he got up.

“Show me where your door was.”

They both walked to where it was and she points to the location. Then he does something that she did not expect. He opened a door to that room and then closed it before she could go in.

“You are angry with me because there is no door but you just saw that the room was still there. Why didn’t you just open a door? Sometimes we take what is simple and make a complicated mess out of it. Go outside and think simple. Meditate on it. I know that you will be the one to break through this problem. Keep it simple.”

As he pushes her out the door, he makes a statement that floors her.

“Research has been done as to how a bumble bee fly. The results show that it should be impossible for it to fly. A bumble bee flies because it can.”

With that he closes the door. She thinks about what he said, then she sits and leans against a tree. A tiny seed, long ago grew and became this tree. A bumble bee flies because it can. This tree grew from that tiny seed because it could. They did not get involved with the logic, they just did.

It hit her. He is right. She and her ancestors, were using all that research into why and how. Jazel laughed for a long time. She realized that she was mated to a very smart man. She was too involved with the old research.

She thought about it. Opened the new journal and wrote these words that now are historical.

“I can open a door because I can”

She then wrote that she opened a door to the end of the road. Then opened a door to the next town. She recorded the difference in the feeling. She continued this until she opened a door to her study but it was completely around the world.

Jazel walked back into the home and sat next to him.

“How did you get so smart?”

He smiled. He knew that in just those few hours, she solved the problem. So he asks,

“Why does a bumble bee fly?”

She responds, “Because it can.”

Jazel now takes him to their bed and they spent the remainder of that day enjoying themselves.

By the end of the week, there were numerous scholars and researchers coming to their home. Some had more power so they sat out under that tree and experimented. She insisted on that.

Each new person would be shown that wall and then she would make a door to the room. This was to show them that you need to get a clear mind.

“Throw out your restrictions and just fly.”

It was a matter of a month and that group, now named, Jazel’s tree, opened a door to the nearest world. They looked then closed the door. They did that again and found that it was breathable air.

Again, they tried to make the simple complicated. They wanted to make suits and different things to test the air. Jazel, to their horror, just stepped through took a deep breath and stepped back.

“I’m not dead. The air seemed fine to me.”

They watched her for a while. Still the thinkers, they wanted now to step through but before they closed it on that side, they insisted on taking another person and have them cast a door to this world. That was successful.

On that day, the world learned that the long quest was solved. Jazel went into history as the first person to go through a door, stand on another world and return. The problem was that it is not totally correct.

Many weeks later, Jazel was getting sick. Thinking that it was because of her stepping through to that world, healers poured in to their home and all came out with the same conclusion.

That day, when she found out the solution, they spent the remainder in bed, was the day their daughter was conceived.

As with Elrick’s line on the other world, Jazel’s line continued transporting Razael’s essence. Now she was in their daughter.

That daughter mated to a young man from the Windwillow family. They had a daughter that they named Azael.

Now explorers go out. The world that Elrick is on has been visited multiple times over centuries. They now have an open door that allows magic to flow to them to be able to do more there. This world has set standards on conduct while visiting other worlds.

Observe. Do not interfere. Stay out of war zones.

Finally a familiar scent

That young felid named Azael has grown up on the adventure stories of her own world and of those other worlds. Her parents knew that she was lost to the wanderlust.

Caught up in those books, so much so, that they knew that she was going to go as soon as she became an adult.

She especially liked the tales of that world that had grown from a simple life like they had, to a bustling world that did not have magic but compensated by inventions. They could not thought talk so they had devices that they could just push a few buttons and talk to that person.

All the books would say that they were trapped alone in their flesh. The basic we enjoy of being able to thought speak was unknown to them. Our explorers would have to block the flood of loose thoughts, but it actually was fun to listen to them when you learned to single them out.

There have been a few comedy books on the loose thoughts of that world. There have also been books brought back about their continuing conflicts. So much so that all are warned to, if you visit, open a door to our world at a moment’s notice if trouble starts.

That is how quickly wars there start.

Azael grew and, as her parents knew, she went off, as an adventurer, on her world and made a name for herself. She was one of the best. She had that instinct that comes from the ages. Weapons, strategies and other things that came natural to her. They seemed instinctive.

What no one knew was that she was drawing on Razael’s experience and skills. Those became hers. Razael woke and knew that it is the time, just a little longer. The time for her to search was at hand. She stayed in the background but Azael is the one.

Her adventures were such that she even rescued and befriended a fox girl named Margret. They were now inseparable. Azael’s parents were glad of this because Margret traveled with her and became a war maid to her. Protecting her in battle.

They really did not like her promiscuity with males but those encounters did not last.

Those males seemed to just leave. She had Margret to help her over those partings.

She now had the talent and money to finally be able to open a door to that war world she had read about. When she did, she found the most wonderful thing. She found a book store.

In there was a selection of every type of book. More topics that she ever imagined.

There was one section she was drawn to.

In a section they called fiction, there were books written by people on being on other worlds of magic. Different ways their world was plunged into chaos and survivors triumphed against terrible odds. She did buy quite a few. One in particular. It was about an old man and his cats being sent to another world. One cat became a felid lover and the other his felid butler. That caught her attention since she also was a felid.

During that trip, in that store Razael woke with a start, she sensed Elrick. She mentally shouted out but he was not in the area. He is here. At long last, she found the world he was on and she knew he was sleeping just like she had been doing.

Razael saw the books that Azael had and suddenly got the impression that his host liked those same books. She felt that the host was in this area but Elrick was asleep.

That is when she planted the idea in Azael that she should write about her adventures on Randan.

Azael thought about that and felt that she could write then publish both on Randan and here. She wrote and published.

The contest

It took a few years but now she is the published author Vickey Dew. She has quite a well received series of books about an adventurer named Azael Windwillow on Randan.

They are dramatic and erotic. Azael likes going into book stores and listening to thoughts about her books.

Razael is searching. On a visit to a city where Azael was going to do a book signing at a convention, she sensed Elrick. He was in deep sleep. She wanted to wake him but then heard the thoughts of his host.

He was in love with Azael of the books. She knew that this was Elrick dreaming.

Rick Brown was buying Vickey Dew’s latest. The expensive hard bound edition. She heard his thoughts. How he was enraptured with the fact that he could get Vickey’s autograph. He also wanted to tell her of some revisions she should consider.

Razael put the thought of holding a contest for an adventure of a lifetime into Azael’s mind.

At the convention, when he was getting her autograph she accidently bumped the sign.

Rick saw it and filled out an entry form. That form was picked out by Razael. Azael did not know at the time, but she and Rick fulfilled the role of reuniting Elrick and Razael.
