Switzerland celebrates the Gotthard Base Tunnel

On 1 June 2016, 17 years after the first blast in the main tunnel, the Gotthard Base Tunnel was officially opened at a five-hour ceremony. Politicians from Switzerland and other countries accepted invitations to attend, including the German chancellor Angela Merkel, the French president François Hollande and the Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi.

Surrounded by members of the Swiss Federal Council, Swiss president Schneider-Ammann symbolically cut through the tape in the afternoon and handed over the tunnel to Swiss Railways SBB.

The main tunnel consisting of two single track bores is 57 km long, the longest rail tunnel in the world; if all connecting and access tunnels and shafts are included, the entire tunnel system amounts to more than 152 km.

Kabbala, esoteric Jewish mysticism as it appeared in the 12th and following centuries. The Swiss Guard is one of the oldest functioning military corps in the world.

The order initially started as a simple alliance between the Swiss and Pope Sixtus IV (the pope responsible for the creation of both the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican archives). These mercenaries, who were revered for their bravery, were also utilized by the two popes who followed, putting the guards in position to play a pivotal role in what would later be called

“The Italian Wars”.

It was on the 22nd of January 1506, however, that the order as we know it today was officially established under Pope Julius II (the nephew of Sixtus IV who also commissioned Michelangelo to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel). While the order has seen its ups and downs over the years, being abandoned and re-established several times, their colorful uniforms are now a permanent fixture of the Vatican city-state.

SUBCONSCIOUS MIND, WHICH HOLDS OUR MEMORIES OF THE PAST AND THUS HAS A HEAVY TIME COMPONENT; IS COMBINED WITH THE LOGIC OF THE CONSCIOUS MIND, WHICH WORKS IN A CAUSE AND EFFECT TYPE OF

SEQUENTIAL PROCESSING ALONG A HORIZONTAL X-AXIS; IS COMBINED WITH THE CREATIVITY OF THE INTUITIVE

PICTURE THE TOP FLOOR AS CONTAINING A ROOM THAT HAS MONITORS THAT ARE ATTACHED TO A SECURITY

SYSTEM THAT MONITORS ALL THE OTHER FLOORS IN THE HOUSE. FROM THIS ROOM THE BASEMENT, THE FIRST

FLOOR, THE SECOND FLOOR AND ALL OF THE OTHER ROOMS ON THE THIRD FLOOR CAN BE MONITORED. THIS

ROOM COULD BE SEEN AS A KIND OF CENTRAL COMMAND FROM WHICH THE ACTIVITIES GOING ON IN THE

No nation desirous of reducing its growth rate to 1% or less can expect to do so without the widespread use of abortion.

This observational study, based on the experience of 116 of the world's largest countries, supports the contention that abortion is essential to any national population growth control effort. The principal findings are: Except for a few countries with ageing populations and very high contraceptive prevalence rates, developed countries will need to maintain abortion rates generally in the range of 201-500 abortions per 1000 live births if they are to maintain growth rates at levels below 1%. The current rate in the USA is 426 abortions per 1000 live births. Developing countries, on the other hand, are faced with a different and more difficult set of circumstances that require even greater reliance on abortion. No developing nation wanting to reduce its growth to less than 1% can expect to do so without the widespread use of abortion, generally at a rate greater than 500 abortions per 1000 live births. Widespread availability of abortion is a necessary but not sufficient condition to achieve growth rates below 1%. A high contraceptive prevalence is essential as well in order to achieve growth rates below 1%. The data in this report suggest that actual alternatives are high death rates of infants and children or widespread use of contraception and abortion.

African nations tend to have the very lowest abortion rates and the very highest infant and child death rates. To avoid a world with deteriorating social, economic and political stability, with the concomitant loss of personal and national security, we must ensure that safe abortion is made available to all who wish to use this service.

PIP: Population control is an important but neglected social benefit of abortion. To examine this role, the outhors compared population growth rates and abortion (legal and illegal) incidence rates for the 116 largest countries in the world. These 116 countries were first ranked by their abortion rates into 4 groups: very high (greater than 500/1000 live births), high (201-500/1000), moderate (50-200/1000) and low (less than 50/1000). Then each of these 4 groups was ranked according to contraceptive prevalence: very high (60% or above), high (40-59%), moderate (15-39%), and low (less than 15%). Within each of the 16 groups, the countries were then ranked according to their population growth rate. The age distribution and mortality of children under 5 years of age were also considered for each country. The data indicate that where abortion and contraceptive prevalence rates are the highest and populations are the oldest, growth rates tend to be the lowest. As contraceptive prevalence decreases, the growth rate increases. The younger the population, the greater the growth rate. Where the abortion rate is very high with only modest use of contraception, a high growth rate can result. Thus, abortion is necessary but not sufficient to cause low growth rates. With the exception of a few countries with aging populations and very high contraceptive prevalence rates, developed countries need to maintain abortion rates in the range of 201-500/1000 if they are to maintain growth rates at levels below 1%. An even greater reliance on abortion--over 500/1000 live births--is required in developing countries to reduce population growth.

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

Burning fossil fuels generates greenhouse gas emissions that act like a blanket wrapped around the Earth, trapping the sun’s heat and raising temperatures.

Clearing land and cutting down forests can also release carbon dioxide. Agriculture, oil and gas operations are major sources of methane emissions. Energy, industry, transport, buildings, agriculture and land use are among the main sectors causing greenhouse gases.

Humans are responsible for global warming

Climate scientists have showed that humans are responsible for virtually all global heating over the last 200 years. Human activities like the ones mentioned above are causing greenhouse gases that are warming the world faster than at any time in at least the last two thousand years.

The average temperature of the Earth’s surface is now about 1.2°C warmer than it was in the late 1800s (before the industrial revolution) and warmer than at any time in the last 100,000 years. The last decade (2011-2020) was the warmest on record, and each of the last four decades has been warmer than any previous decade since 1850.

Climate explained: what is an ice age and how often do

they happen?

What is an ice age? Do they have to last a certain amount of time to count, how did they vary and how many ice ages has the Earth experienced?

As with many definitions of natural phenomena, a precise definition of an ice age isn’t straightforward.

Ice ages form during protracted periods of a relatively cooler Earth. A definition must include the condition that the Earth is sufficiently cool for permanent ice formation.

A second part of an ice age definition is the end result of protracted cooling. Ice ages lead to the development of continental ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres, and the growth of glaciers in mountainous parts of the world, such as the Himalayas, Alps, Southern Alps and Andes.

A third part of the definition involves time. For an ice age to be recorded as significant, it must last for a geologically significant amount of time.

If we bring all these factors together, then an ice age occurs during times of protracted lower temperatures, resulting in significant areas covered in ice for millions to tens or even hundreds of millions of years.

Ice ages and the Earth’s climate

Ice ages change the Earth’s climatic belts. Temperate and tropical zones become restricted to the lower equatorial latitudes.

A question that follows on from the definition of an ice age is: how cold does Earth have to become to produce one?

Earth’s average global temperature today is around 16°C.

Analysis of proxy temperature data (e.g. from the modelling of deep-ocean sediment isotope compositions) over the past 500 million years of Earth’s history indicates that average global temperatures have varied between around -10°C and

+30°C. During the most recent glacial maximum (stadial, 23,000 to 11,000 years ago), the average global temperature was about 8°C, with polar regions experiencing average temperatures of -2°C. Ice-free periods over the past 500 million years correspond with average global temperatures of over 20°C.

Background

Chemtrails refers to the theory that governments or other parties are engaged in a secret program to add toxic chemicals to the atmosphere from aircraft in a way that forms visible plumes in the sky, somewhat similar to contrails. Various different motivations for this alleged spraying are speculated, including sterilization, reduction of life expectancy, mind control or weather control.

We have not seen any credible evidence that chemtrails exist. If we did see any evidence that governments were endangering their own citizens in the manner alleged in the chemtrails conspiracy, we would be eager to expose and stop any such activities.

A Facebook post claims the HAARP research facility in Alaska can control earth’s weather by vibrating metal particles in the atmosphere with radio waves.

The post, which is the latest in a string of claims regarding supposed geoengineering of our weather, says planes spray suspended metals into the atmosphere before the facility transmits radio waves to “excite” these metals and thus alter the weather.

But the claim is false. Experts told AAP FactCheck that HAARP has no impact on the troposphere or stratosphere where planes fly and weather occurs.

HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program) was built as a joint project by the US Air Force and US

Navy in 1993 with control transferred to the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) in 2015.

Its main feature is a high-frequency transmitter used to study the ionosphere, part of the earth’s upper atmosphere.
