Book Description Report this book

Published to celebrate Minnesota's sesquicentennial in 2008, and financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota through the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission's Grants Program, the Minnesota Heritage Songbook is a celebration of Minnesota's folk music and history. The book includes words and music for several dozen songs collected in Minnesota or associated with Minnesota history, plus historical background, information about the sources of each song, and illustrations of Minnesota life in the "traditional music era."

Robert B. Waltz

My first published work, this was a project created for Minnesota's sesquicentennial in 2008. It includes a brief history of the state as illustrated by folk songs (many of them reportedly sung by Laura Ingalls Wilder during her sojourn in Walnut Grove). It won a Minnesota History Award for 2008. But although written about Minnesota, the songs are all traditional, and almost all known beyond Minnesota's boundaries; it is, in a way, an introduction to the North Star State.
