Book Description

Yearning for adventure, Gem Chu, an ambitious Chinese-Australian lawyer in her early 30s, moved to Beijing to work for Potts & Crouch. She worked for Joe Chan, the managing partner of the Beijing office, a married Chinese man who had lived abroad for a decade before returning to China. Joe was a ruthless, narcissistic, self-serving and serial womanizer whose affair with his secretary, sexy Cream Ding, was an open secret in the office. Believing Gem would be an asset to the firm, Joe puts Gem on the firm’s signature projects, where she had the opportunity to work with senior associates, Sharon Ding and Desmond Pang, and the legal assistants. She quickly discovered her Chinese colleagues worked quite differently from her.

A truly fun and interesting read. I love the multicultural aspects of it, and can recognize many of the character types from my years of working in Beijing. Well Done!!
