Scoliosis - Bent But Not Broken
Book Description HTML
I was 10 years old when the doctor first suspected that I had scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine that is very common, particularly in adolescent girls. I was terrified because I had never heard of it. After discovering the results of my x-ray and MRI, I was put in a back brace at the age of 11 and continued to wear it for 2 years. The first day was particularly hard for me. I went to a Vacation Bible School that night and fought to hold back tears as the kids stared at me. Despite how common it is, for many people who have scoliosis, the first time they hear the word is when they're diagnosed. I'm using pageants to promote my platform of Scoliosis - Bent But Not Broken to raise awareness and show other people who are going/have gone through this experience that they're not alone.
