This is a collection of short stories based on real conversations with real young adult learners of English in South Korea from 2007 to 2010. It is best categorized as creative non-fiction. I imagined the unfolding life stories of these protagonists as they were related to me, and thought how their struggles with identity, negotiations with world English, and career decisions might play out.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Barbara Waldern

I've been a teacher of English as a foreign language living alone in South Korea since 2007. I have been a professional editor on the side for about three years, and I am studying writing and editing these days, too. I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. First and foremost, I've been an activist all my life. Though a French major, I was an ESL instructor, government program assistant before I studied to earn a Master's degree in anthropology and work at my university.Though I have done plenty of academic papers, I have been steadily writing non-academic non-fiction and fiction since 2008. To relax, I like exercise including hiking, as well as good conversation, eating and stories.
