Bear Path Standing

Heart surgeon, Dr. Robert Black Bear Johnson, deserted his Chumash Native American community to work and live in a Caucasian upper crust professional locale with his Methodist wife, two children, and an impressive mcmansion. However, his past, while blown away like smoke on a the breeze, has lately been calling to him with visions of Coyote the Trickster, faint drums sounding, and his grandfather's spirit, the great healer, Glowing Hands. Finally, the doctor's father, White Bird, shows up as a patient asking his son to help him die in the way of The People. Doing this endangers Dr. Johnson's marriage and his career. At a hospital ethics board hearing the doctor must stand and defend Chumash history, his life, and his decision to aid White Bird's death journey.
