Mutual Reception: This is the only other relationship being covered here. It is not necessarily an aspect, as seen above, although it can be.
The basis for the relationship with the two planets involved here is because
they are each positioned in the other’s home sign.
For example: Venus in Virgo and Mercury in Libra. This happens quite often
to Virgo and Libra natives. Think of it as switching apartments. Venus
moves into Mercury’s flat or vice versa.
With such auspicious relationships, Venus can take on her own qualities as
well as the qualities of Mercury and the same goes for Mercury.
This particular MUTUAL RECEPTION of Venus to Mercury is prominent in the
charts of clothing designers and antique dealers. I also noted it in the chart
of a popular writer of romantic novels. Both planets seem to be able to bring
out the best in each other.

As you examine the chart, notice that the inner circle of the horoscope is
numbered. These numbers are from one at the east point all the way around
to twelve at the point just above the east point.
Each of the twelve houses symbolically corresponds to an area of life.
Since everyone has questions concerning specific issues in life, once the
chart is constructed, you look to the house that best fits the question.
Below are a few of the more common issues that concern us all and the
house that we reference when looking for guidance with these issues.
HOUSE ONE: The first house relates to the planet Mars and to the Sign
Aries.
This is where we look for clues to the physical appearance. In addition, we
see here the impression we make on others. The sign occupying this house
is called your Ascendant or rising sign. This is the sign and degree on the
eastern horizon as you are born. Here is where we say, “This is me!”
HOUSE TWO: The Second House relates to the Planet Venus and to the sign
Taurus.
This house corresponds to our resources. Whether it’s our values or the
money we can earn. Lots of planets located here can bog down the native
with “stuff”. But it can also make you rich! Here’s where we say “This is
what I possess.”
HOUSE THREE: The Third House relates to the planet Mercury and to the
Sign Gemini.
House Three reflects our surroundings, whether it’s the brothers and sisters
we grow up surrounded by or the neighborhood we live in. It also shows the
area of local travel and the modes we use to get from place to place. The
third house also indicates what we learn in our formative years. Here’s where
we say, “This is what surrounds me, this is what I know for sure.”
HOUSE FOUR: The Fourth House relates to the Moon and to the Sign

This house very closely vibrates to our own home, our mother or father, and
to our final resting place. The fourth house shows where we come from and
where we will end up. Here’s where we say “I belong or I will belong.”
HOUSE FIVE: The Fifth House relates to the Sun and to the sign Leo.
This house represents the fun we will have. Also, and perhaps you might
think conversely, our children. No one has more fun than children! This is
where romantic relationships are taken lightly, for the fun they may bring.
Love affairs on the spur of the moment, just for fun will show up in this
house also. Here we say “I enjoy!”
HOUSE SIX: The Sixth House relates to the Planet Mercury and to the sign
Virgo.
This is the house that can closely reflect our health. It relates also to
everyday chores and jobs we have to take on. There’s a lot of work to be
done when we enter the Sixth house. Not much fun here! In this house the
phrase most spoken is “I’ll do my job, even if it makes me sick!”
HOUSE SEVEN: The Seventh House relates to the Planet Venus and to the
Sign Libra.
House seven most closely reflects the partners we take on in life, whether
they are business or marital. Relationships are formed by this house.
Curiously, we can also look to this area for a clue to the enemies we have.
Probably, this is because the seventh house opposes the first house of our
own physical body. Here we say “These are the people I take seriously.”
HOUSE EIGHT: The Eighth House relates to the Planet Pluto and to the sign
Scorpio.
This house exposes the resources of others - the ones which we may inherit,
enjoy, use, exploit or manage. This house is distinct from the second house
where we tout our own resources. The polarity of the second house to the
eighth puts into mind the difference between what we have and what we
need. The eighth house sheds light on our needs. Here we say “I desire.”

THE NINTH HOUSE: The Ninth House relates to the Planet Jupiter and to
the Sign Sagittarius.
This house shows how we see world, the big picture. Here is where our
philosophy or guiding religious principles live. Here we also see the major
trips we may take, both mentally and physically. Some reference to in-laws
is also seen because this is symbolically our partner’s house of brothers and
sisters. (Third house from the seventh.) Here we say “This is what I’ve
learned from others and from my own further studies.”
THE TENTH HOUSE: The Tenth House relates to the Planet Saturn and to
the Sign Capricorn.
The career is on display here. Where we belong (the Fourth House) sends us
upward to find what we can fit into it in the outer world. This is also referred
to the Midheaven. This sign and degree are directly overhead when you are
born. The planets in this house as well as the sign occupying this house cusp
tell us a lot about what we can expect from our life’s work. It also says what
is expected from us, so there is this insinuation of the bosses we have as well
as how we can perform as the boss. Here we say, “I’ve accomplished.”
THE ELEVENTH HOUSE: The Eleventh House relates to the Planet Uranus
and to the Sign Aquarius.
In the Eleventh House, we can see what our career has done for us. The
acquaintances we’ve made, the associations we belong to, but also the hopes
and wishes we’ve seen materialized from the efforts of our career. This
house very much says, “These are the trappings of my efforts in the world.”
THE TWELFTH HOUSE: The Twelfth House relates to the Planet Neptune
and to the Sign Pisces.
We are not home free just yet! This is the house of our undoing. All of the
other eleven houses can come undone here. Here is where we can see the
possibility for incarceration or institutionalization. Here is where we house
our biggest disappointments. Our mantra here is “I’m disillusioned, I’m
sorry.”

are by them.

Chapter Five: The Complete Itinerary
Earlier in the book, there is a chart drawn up for Mother’s Day, 2008 at 12:45 pm EDT, in North Olmsted, Ohio. This is the birth chart of that
moment.
Any person born that day, at that time and in that location, would have that
chart as their own birth HOROSCOPE.
For the purpose of demonstration, we’ll call this person Joe.
Using the previous chapters, let’s see how we can describe “Joe’s” chart.
We see Leo in the First House, on the Ascendant. We know Leo does things
in a grand manner and likes to have fun.
Then, we notice the planet Saturn tucked down into the First house in the
sign Virgo. This will probably make the fun loving Leo rising know when to
put the brakes on.
Because Saturn occupies the same sign that is found on the Second house of
resources, “Joe” may not have the money to throw around that Leo would
like.
With conscientious Virgo on the Second House cusp, Joe lives on a strict
budget.
With Libra on the third house cusp, Joe has an expensive car to keep up and
many occasions for pleasant visits with his siblings.
He was stylishly dressed when he went to school and usually had many
friends.
He probably lived in the “right” neighborhood and spent many enjoyable
times with his school friends.
On the Fourth house is Scorpio; these are his parents, at least the more
dominant one. Joe’s Mother was always suspicious of the time he spent
away from home during his teenage years. She would have liked it better if
he had spent more time doing his research and study papers. She also
pressured him into obtaining as much financial aid as possible, and did a

thorough job of investigating where he could obtain the most grants. She
also thought his lab and study partners were taking advantage of his
generous sharing of information. She felt they may be exploiting his
knowledge for their own benefit.
They lived on the lower floor of a stately duplex very near the lake. Her
mother inherited the home from her own parents.
With Sagittarius on the Fifth House cusp, and Pluto positioned there, we see
that Joe has a lot of romantic relationships, but none of them seem to run
smoothly.
His romantic interests usually are jealous and possessive. He loves to
gamble, but he is certain that there are underworld criminals skimming from
the casino he goes to, so he is careful to take only the amount of money he
can spare and cashes out and leaves when he hits a big pot.
Joe has Capricorn on his Sixth House; he is a tirelessly hard worker. With
Jupiter so close to the cusp of this house, we know he probably enjoys
working harder than anyone else. Jupiter here can also tell us that he is
blessed with good health.
The only issues he should encounter with this placement have to do with
over-indulgence.
With Aquarius on the Seventh House, we can infer that his marriage was
sudden, probably unexpected, and went through many changes before it
finally ended in divorce.
Neptune in the seventh suggests a foggy, idealized image of the marriage
partner. Or, perhaps, the marriage partner was addicted to alcohol or drugs.
Let’s see if this Neptune receives any difficult aspects.
We see a close square to it from the Sun. This marriage would involve some
image issues for Joe. He probably felt he would get further in his career
(Sun placed in the tenth house) without this addicted spouse.
His boss may have privately mentioned to him that she noticed his wife was
intoxicated at the company Christmas party.

His Eighth House has Pisces on the cusp. Presently, his mother intends to
leave her considerable estate to the Animal Sanctuary. Pisces causes much
frustration where it falls in the chart. With Uranus held firmly in this house,
she could suddenly become incompetent leaving the decisions regarding her
estate to him.
This is only a possibility. Her entire fortune could be invested in Nuclear
Power Facilities, and boom or bust on a turn of the market.
I would predict the unpredictable where Uranus occupies and tell him to keep
investing in his own 401K and Employee Savings Plan.
Uranus in the Eighth House can signify a financial windfall, but don’t run to the bank just yet!
Aries on the cusp of the Ninth house shows that Joe tried to excel in college.
He won some awards. He was quick to grasp at a chance for some study
opportunities in Germany, and wants to return there someday for a vacation.
He has cut ties with the church he belonged to while he was growing up. His
philosophy is quite terse: “Live and Let Live.”
As we move on to the Tenth House of Career and reputation, with Taurus on
the cusp of this house, we think he may be involved in banking.
Venus posited here in her own sign, Taurus, bodes well for his income and
further suggests banking.
With Venus here it is also possible that a woman is instrumental in furthering
his career. He tells us that the female president and CEO took him under her
wing and has been grooming him for a spot that will be opening on the Board
of Directors.
Joe also has the Sun in the Tenth house. Where you find the Sun is a likely
place for the native to shine. Joe is optimistic about this for his career.
We also see Mercury situated well into the Tenth House closing in on the cusp
of House Eleven. We might infer from this that he speaks before clubs and
organizations regarding banking regulations and policies. Even though Joe

started into the banking field in a relatively low position, (he began as an
Assistant Branch Manager), he will rise to prominence in this field.
With Gemini on the Eleventh House cusp, Joe has a membership in a
discussion club. This is a neighborhood group that meets monthly at the
local recreation center. The topics for discussion revolve around betterment
of the Community.
Joe wishes to write manuals for the banking community. He has stated that
he needs to get down on paper all the speeches he has delivered regarding
his profession.
With Cancer on the Twelfth House of disappointments and undoing, Joe
knows that his fondness for keeping his emotions hidden has tripped him up
a few times.
He would probably be better served by telling his mother about his
frustration and hurt over her choice of endowing the Animal Shelter when
she dies, but these emotions are kept hidden and bottled up.
Mars located in the Twelfth House says he may hold in his anger even when
he would be better served by releasing some of it. His penchant for keeping
his feelings under wraps could very well be his undoing.
The wide Moon/Neptune Opposition reinforces this tendency. With the Moon
placed so close to the Ascendant, he really is not fooling anyone about all the
emotions he experiences.
The Moon on the Ascendant tends to wear their heart on their sleeve.
Moreover, one massive emotional outburst may be quite overwhelming to
those around him. We want to warn him to express his feelings as they
arise, since everyone is already aware of them.
Maybe, if he does this, he can avoid the melt-down or crack-up he is headed
for if he continues this repressive stance.
The interpretation given above is just an example of how a person may
interact with their horoscope.

The possibilities are endless.
Astrology in general, and the Horoscope in particular, are symbolic
representations; they are a language we can make use of in order to grasp
our earthly position.
In the next few chapters, we will use the same horoscope chart to illustrate
very different circumstances.
By using the symbolic language of Astrology, we open a door to
understanding that we previously didn’t know existed.

Chapter Six: Synastry – People We Meet Along the Road
Synastry is the branch of Astrology that can tell us about our compatibility
with the people in our life.
Occasionally, Synastry is used to see how people relate to an organization or
even a country. But, for now, we will just explore personal relationships.
Again, we will be using the example chart shown here.
Joe wants to know about the twelve other people in his Discussion Group.
He has not pried into their personal lives enough to know their exact dates,
times or location of their birth, but he would like to find out if he should form
a more personal relationship with any of them.
Oddly enough, and strictly for our purposes, there is represented in this
group one member of each of the twelve signs of the Zodiac.
Because all we have at our disposal is these folks’ Sun Signs, we will place
their Suns into Joe’s chart and look for relationships to his planetary set-up.
First, naturally, is Agnes Aries. Her Sun falls in his Ninth house. This can
mean that she resonates to his “Live and Let Live” philosophy. She has
mentioned that she wants to visit Germany and look up some of her
ancestors.
Her Sun in Aries makes a trine aspect to his behind-the-scenes Moon in Leo.
The trine is a very favorable aspect according to the chapter you read on
Aspects. The Sun and Moon are vital to creating relationships. The warm
energies flowing between her Sun in Aries and his Moon in Leo make this one
of the club members with whom he is most interested in forming a more
personal relationship.
Without knowing anything else about her chart, we can infer from this
Sun/Moon trine that he and Agnes Aries will both have an interest in
developing at least a friendship.
Next is Tim Taurus. He and Joe have similar views on the neighborhood
beautification project and both have expressed concerns about how to
acquire the budget to cover the expenses for this mission.

But, they tend to compete for floor-time in airing their opinions, and they
both have some difficulty seeing the others’ stubbornly held points of view.
Joe thinks they can see eye-to-eye long enough to complete the plans of the
group, but Joe also sees Tim Taurus as a rival.
He seems to have many of the same qualities that Joe has and does not
really add much to Joe’s already easygoing, soft-spoken personality. Here,
we are witnessing the Conjunction of the two Suns. There is the tendency
with this inter-chart aspect to try to “outshine” each other, to “block out each
other’s rays” so to speak.
Maybe this would be like having two left feet. It may be reassuring to see
that there is another one a good deal like it, but is it very useful?
Joe sees very little possibility for furthering this contact.
Gina Gemini has sparked Joe’s interest. She is always there to fill in any lulls
in the conversations the group may be having.
Her Sun is Conjunct Joe’s Mercury in Gemini. She relates to his ideas about
the need to spruce things up in the downtown sector. She generally votes
his way on the issues presented before the group.
However, because her Sun in Gemini Squares his Uranus in Pisces, he sees a
disturbing trend in her attitudes about the budget they have to work with.
She is more inclined to look for Federal Grant money. This would give the
group more money. However, in Joe’s eyes, they would then have the
Federal Government dictating the development of their community.
Gina has quite a perky attitude and perhaps under different circumstances he
may be interested in furthering this relationship.
Her Sun makes a Sextile Aspect to his Moon in Leo. There is the opportunity
for a harmonious relationship but with Gina’s Sun square Joe’s Uranus, there
would be the obstacle of her challenging (Square) any need he may feel for
independence (Uranus).

Christopher Cancer appeared to be a welcome addition to the group. (His Sun
Sextiles Joe’s Sun). His family has been in this community for four
generations.
However, because his Sun falls into Joe’s Twelfth House, Joe sees him as
frustrating and a disappointment.
Christopher Cancer wants everything to remain as it is. The only changes he
would consider would be restoring historic landmarks and returning the inner
ring of the downtown sector into a Promenade, like it was years ago.
Because Christopher’s Sun makes an opposition to Joe’s Jupiter, Joe thinks
he would squander the entire budget on making the city more of what it
already is.
When arguments surface in the group, Christopher gets moody and
emotional and will retreat from all further discussion.
If Joe is lucky, he will be able to tolerate Christopher in the meetings, but Joe
wishes no expansion of this troublesome relationship.
Lucy Leo heads up their entertainment committee. She does superbly.
She makes sure that Joe always has center stage when they perform their
yearly benefit concert. With Lucy’s Sun conjunct Joe’s Moon and Ascendant,
they are forever seeking each other out. They will usually stop for a drink
together after the meetings.
Lucy usually has a few too many cocktails (her Sun is opposite Joe’s
Neptune) and Joe has taken her home more than once.
He has driven her to her door and watched her from his car window to make
sure she was able to get into the house, and then he pulls way.
