Ranny wasn’t interested in anything on the web, smoked some pot, and spaced. He came back to earth amongst the homeless; not literally, but as an abstraction; an abstraction likely prompted by his work with them.

He knew that some, if not many of the people he shot were homeless. That makes them especially dangerous, as if caught committing a crime their “punishment” is a jail cell with a roof over their head, heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer, three meals per day, a private bathroom, and free medical care.

So “Come own an git me cop” was not mere posturing, it was the demonstration of a real homeless lack of fear of the criminal justice system. Historic “crime and punishment” had devolved to “crime and reward” for them, conducive to the expansion of those prone to criminal activity.

This doesn’t even remotely address the issues of mental deficiency and the exonerating, post hoc, unverified claims of being called the magic n-word.

Trying to refrain from being grandiose, Ranney could not help but see his activities as being similar to that of “The Spirit”

or the spirit, whichever you prefer; in that his nightly journeys were bringing to justice those who the established “law and order” cannot or will not set straight.
