Chucky the Chimp
Chucky the Chimp; Routine Observation
Chucky lay sprawled across a hospital bed, his fur matted from the indignities of the morning. A banana peel still clung stubbornly to his elbow, evidence of the fall that had sent him here. Around him, a small army of handlers bustled, clipboards in hand, whispering phrases like "routine observation" and "no cause for alarm."
The excuses began immediately:
"It wasn't Chucky's fault, the floor was slippery."
"It wasn't Chucky's fault, biology did it."
"It wasn't Chucky's fault, management failed him."
The narrator interrupts. This book should not exist. It is forbidden. You should close it now. But since you haven't, let's continue.
Chucky blinked at the fluorescent lights above, wondering if he was a patient, a politician, or a prototype. His handlers scribbled notes as though the chimp's collapse were a matter of state, or perhaps as a glitch in a Russian AI.
