mailman’s smile felt like it was meant just for them, as if the show knew they were watching.
His father leaned down and whispered, “He’s got a letter for you today, I bet.”
He giggled. “What does it say?”
His father made a show of pulling an invisible envelope from the air, opening it with exaggerated care. “It says: ‘Dear Kenny, you are very brave, very smart, and very loved. Signed, The Merry Mailman.’”
Kenny beamed. In the dream, he didn’t question the magic. The letter was real. The love was real. The world was simple and safe again, and full of morning rituals that mattered.
The show continued. Puppets danced, cartoons flickered, and the “Merry Mailman” read birthday cards from children whose names he pronounced with reverence. Kenny’s father chuckled at the antics, occasionally reaching over to tousle his son’s hair.
And then, as dreams do, the scene began to dissolve. The television flickered. The Cheerios faded. His father’s robe became mist. But the feeling remained; a warmth in the chest, a quiet joy.
