“The Whispering Rabbit” is a gentle, whimsical Little Golden Book by Margaret Wise Brown. It tells of a small bunny who accidentally swallows a bee that falls asleep in his throat. The bunny must whisper very softly so as not to wake the bee, and he tries all sorts of quiet ways to coax it out.
The rabbit whispers to the bee, asking it to wake up. He tries whispering different words, sounds, and gentle encouragements. He even whispers to other animals, hoping they might help.
Eventually, the bee wakes up, buzzes out of the rabbit's throat, and flies away. The rabbit can finally speak aloud again. The tale closes with a sense of relief and gentle humor, reminding children of the magic in small, everyday happenings.
