With Frank going in one direction and Ava in another, they went about their daily academic activities. He had a class to attend, and Ava had a class to teach. Ava seemed thrilled to again spend time with him, but Frank had become plagued with mixed feelings. He certainly enjoyed her company as well as the physical intimacy, but from time to time those three words she had whispered to him echoed in his mind. What he felt and what he wanted were largely the same—occasional sex mixed with solitude. And if there was no sex, that would be fine as long as he was left alone to bury himself in his studies. He was, as some might say, a man on a mission, and nothing would stand in the way of his mission.
